Cemetery Hours: open to the public from Dawn to Dusk

Behind our funeral home is our peaceful and scenic endowed-care cemetery. Spreading over roughly 20 acres, the cemetery contains several sections or gardens, two mausoleums, a columbarium, two small ponds and a large gazebo for services. From ground burial to cremation niches, we offer various options for your loved one’s final resting place.

In the 1800s, the land the cemetery is located on, as well as the surrounding area, was owned by the Slaughter Family and contained a private family cemetery. In the early 1900s, portions of their land were sold, including the piece containing the family cemetery. That piece inspired the creation of the current cemetery, once known as Swan Lake Memorial Gardens.

While the Slaughter’s family cemetery is now known as The Historic Slaughter Cemetery with limited burials, the rest of the cemetery is open to the public with the first burial outside of the Slaughter Family occurring in 1985.

While ownership of the cemetery changed hands a few times over the years, the majority of the owners focused on serving veterans and their families. In 2024, the honor of caring for so many loved ones’ resting places passed into our hands and we renamed the cemetery Valor Park Memorial Gardens. While we honor our veterans and their families, just as previous owners did, our focus is helping all families in need.

We are dedicated to creating a beautiful and serene environment for our families to visit their loved ones, now and in the future. Prior to taking over, the cemetery had fallen into a state of disrepair. Our focus is returning the grounds to the beauty and tranquility it was once known for, while we plan for many improvements in the future.

Why Choose Endowed-Care?

While most cemeteries are privately owned, with some under the care of the city or county, not every public cemetery is endowed care. This is an important factor when choosing a cemetery. While the difference isn’t apparent now, it will have a huge impact in the future.

Endowed care means there is a plan in place to care for the cemetery grounds indefinitely. A portion of every sale is placed in a state-regulated trust fund. The trust is set up to ensure the grounds are cared for, even after the cemetery is no longer accepting burials. Without those funds, non-endowed care cemeteries will often fall victim to disrepair and neglect as time goes on.
