Sandra Lee Hutsell, a cherished educator, loving mother, and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on February 1, 1944, in Kansas City, she dedicated her life to enriching the lives of others, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
A proud 1992 graduate of Central Missouri State University, Sandra earned her Bachelor of Science in Special Education, embarking on a rewarding 17-year career teaching. Her passion for teaching was complemented by her nurturing spirit, as she opened her heart and home as a foster parent, caring for over 72 children throughout her life. Sandra's love for children, especially those with special needs, transcended boundaries, making her a beacon of hope and guidance for many.
As a homemaker, Sandra thrived in creating a warm and inviting home filled with laughter and kindness. She was a talented cook, seamstress, and crafter, bringing joy to her family through her creative talents. Many will fondly remember her seated at the piano, filling the air with beautiful melodies that reflected her love for music.
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Sandra held her faith close to her heart, guiding her through life’s challenges and joys while fostering a strong sense of community around her.
She leaves behind a loving family who mourns her loss but celebrates her remarkable life. Sandra is survived by her daughters, Sarah (Darin) of Clinton, MO, and Samantha (AJ) of Clinton, MO, and her son, Steve (Julie) of Alton, IL. Her legacy continues through her 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life.
Sandra joins her beloved son, Shad, in eternal rest, alongside her parents, Robert and Doris (Birks) Hutsell, and her brother, Bob Hutsell. She is also reunited with her faithful companion, her dog Sadie, who brought her comfort and joy.
A graveside service to honor Sandra's remarkable life will be held at Valor Park Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley, Missouri, on January 15, 2026, at 3 PM.
