Rose Marie Allen-Flax was born on June 30, 1957, to William Herman Flax and Mary Ann (Kuhn) Flax in Hays, Kansas. She was raised by her parents in WaKeeney, Kansas, where she was baptized at Christ the King Catholic Church, the church her father attended.
Rose later attended Fort Hays State University, where she met Dr. Nse Udo, the father of her first two children: Valerie "Sunshine" Udo and Nse Udo. Later, she met John Allen, with whom she had three children: Latoya Allen, Tawatha "Tete" Allen and John Allen II.
Rose worked as a baker at Price Chopper for more than 30 years. During her time there, she formed close relationships with coworkers, some of whom she treated like family.
Rose enjoyed reading, watching movies, and making money. She was strong-willed, outspoken, and never afraid to speak her mind.
Rose passed away on August 15, 2026 at Kansas City Hospice. She was 69 years old.
Rose is survived by her five children: Valerie "Sunshine" Udo, Nse Udo, Latoya Allen, Tawatha "Tete" Allen, and John Allen II; seven grandchildren; her sister, Carol Jean Smith; her stepsister, Katherine Rhoades; four nieces and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Herman Flax and Mary Ann (Kuhn) Flax; her stepmother, Helen Flax; her ex-mother-in-law, Delcie Allen; her grandparents; and other family members who passed before her.
The family sincerely thanks everyone who donated towards Rose's final arrangements, sent cards or flowers, offered condolences or supported the family during this time.
