Nancy Louise Homan

January 13, 1957 — October 10, 2025

Independence

Nancy Louise Homan, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, left this world on October 10, 2025, at the age of 68. She passed away peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by her loved ones after suffering a massive stroke. Nancy was born on January 13, 1957, in Kirksville, MO. Her journey through life was defined by her commitment to her family, her passion for genealogy, and her infectious joy for the simple pleasures of country life.

An accomplished healthcare administrator, Nancy devoted herself to caring for others throughout her career. After retiring, she embraced a new chapter at Cracker Barrel, where her warmth and charm continued to touch the lives of many. Her education began at UMKC, where she laid the foundation for a career dedicated to service and community.

Nancy's rich tapestry of interests was woven from countless hours spent studying her family's genealogy, leading her to proudly join the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). She had a profound love for living the country life and found delight in cooking, baking, sewing, canning, gardening, and fishing. She especially cherished all things related to cows and delighted in sharing her bounty with loved ones. Nancy had a keen eye for beauty — whether it was through photography, scrapbooking, or hunting for treasures at auctions, she enjoyed collecting antiques that told a story of their own.

Family gatherings were the heart of Nancy's world. She had a knack for hosting memorable occasions infused with laughter, love, and happiness. The holidays were especially dear to her, with Christmas being a time when her creativity dazzled everyone around her. She transformed her home into a wonderland, complete with themed Christmas trees adorning every room, creating a festive spirit that lingered long after the decorations were taken down.

Nancy looked forward to attending the annual Santa-Cali-Gon and Missouri Town’s fall festivals, where she immersed herself in the celebrations that brought the community together. Her adventures with her siblings were filled with joy, laughter, and the making of memories that would last a lifetime. The bond they shared was unbreakable, and her spirit lived vibrantly in every story they recounted together.

Nancy is survived by her cherished daughters, Amy Mangels (Matt) and Emily McDowell (Mike), and her son, Justin Homan (Aryn). She's also mourned by her beloved siblings, Mike Karaff (Debbie), Donna Behee (Rick), and Teresa Rogers (Will). The legacy of her devotion continues with her nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

She joins her parents, Donald and Dorothy Karaff, in eternal peace, leaving behind a world forever changed by her kindness, laughter, and love. A graveside service to honor Nancy's life will be held on October 19, 2025, at Lobb Cemetery in Blue Springs, MO, starting at 11:30 AM.

Nancy Louise Homan will be deeply missed and will forever be remembered for the light she brought into the lives of those she loved.

The family would like to extend their thanks to:

The UHC Long-Term Care family -  She loved spending her days with all of you and enjoyed the activities and social events you put together. She loved earning her coins so she could shop at the store you put together for them.

Valor-Brown Funeral Service - special thanks for taking care of all arrangements and being willing to fulfill her final wishes.

And finally to Terry, her boyfriend - Thank you for loving our mom. We have loved getting to spend the last several days with you and getting to know you better. You were able to share about a side of her we had not seen and your love for her was clear. Her final days were spent listening to you reading her scriptures, holding her hand and giving final kisses. We cherished spending that time with you.
