Michael Scott Chapman passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on July 21, 2026 at the age of 56, surrounded by the quiet comfort of the place he shared with his loving mother, Nancy, and stepfather, Woody. Born on April 28, 1970 at Cass County Hospital in Harrisonville, MO to Arle Chapman and Nancy Lindly, Scott’s life was a tapestry of steadfast devotion, quiet humor, and deep love for family that will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.

Scott graduated from Fort Osage High School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life grounded in hard work and loyalty. He went on to dedicate many years to the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant as a gun powder specialist, where his skill and diligence earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Though retirement came in 2015 due to health reasons, Scott never lost his industrious spirit—he continued to cut wood, mow grass, and tackle tree work whenever he could.

To know Scott was to know a man who found joy in life’s simplest pleasures and in the warmth of family gatherings. He was a quiet person, but his actions spoke volumes—always present, always devoted. He treasured shooting with his stepfather Woody and held dear the moments spent at truck and tractor pulls alongside his brother Russell and son Seth, with family by their side. He had a fondness for wrestling and boxing matches, marveled at home makeover shows and BBQ contests, though, in truth, his culinary talent was limited to his trademark ham and beans in the crockpot. Westerns and “Heat of the Night” filled the family home with laughter and shared memories, just as holidays and reunions drew everyone together under Scott’s warm and steady presence.

Scott’s heart belonged to his family and many friends, and the bonds he formed were unbreakable. He dearly loved his son Seth—taking great pride in teaching him to hunt and fish, and finding joy in every moment together, perhaps even more than he could say aloud. Those who knew him best understood the pride he carried for his son, as he did not hesitate to share this with others.

Among Scott’s proudest roles was that of grandfather to Cooper and Hope, cherishing every smile, every visit, and every adventure. The family circle that surrounded Scott was his anchor, and his happiness shone brightest in their company. His brother Russell was not just a sibling, but a lifelong best friend--11 months apart and tied together through countless memories, their loving bond stood strong despite sibling squabbles. He also held close his memories with his late stepfather Rex, with whom he loved to coon and deer hunt, alongside his brother Russell, sharing a camaraderie rarely found.

Scott was steadfast in his beliefs and character—a Christian in heart and spirit, even if not a churchgoer. He lived out those values in the way he cared for his family, the humility he showed to friends, and the compassion he extended to others. He was a man of few words, but many friends, and his gentle smile and easy laugh made him a joy to be around.

He is survived by his beloved son Seth, daughter-in-law Mary and grandchildren Cooper and Hope Chapman of Odessa, MO, each a bright light in his life; his devoted mother Nancy and stepfather Woody Lindly of Buckner, MO; father Arle Chapman of Harrisonville, MO; brother and best friend Russell Chapman of Sibley, MO; sister Sonya Chapman of Bates City, MO; sister Ginger Lavery and brother-in-law Chris of Archie, MO; aunt Jennifer and uncle Pat Stark of Port Charlotte, FL; aunt Verla Roberds of Harrisonville, MO; aunt Twila and uncle James Dryer of Warsaw, MO; aunt Donna Duffield of Blue Springs, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The stories and lessons Scott shared with each of them will be treasured forever.

The family’s love is joined in remembrance by those who have passed before: his stepfather Rex, sister Kerran McFatrich, grandparents Bill and Lorene Chapman and Elton and Selma Lowderman, and nephews Jeremy Lavery and Jacob Chapman.

Scott’s legacy is defined not by accolades but by the steadfast love he gave, the memories he created, and the family he so dearly cherished. The Chapman family invites all who shared in Michael Scott Chapman’s life to join them for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Masonic Lodge, 611 S. Sibley St., Buckner, MO 64016, from 2pm to 5pm. Lunch will be served—a gathering Scott would have enjoyed immensely, surrounded by family and friends whose lives were brightened by his presence.

Though Scott may no longer walk alongside us, his kindness and quiet strength endure in the stories we share and the love that binds our hearts. He lives on—in laughter, in memory, and in the legacy of family he so dearly loved.
