Mary Margaret Brashear, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on June 20, 1947, in Atchison, Kansas, Mary was a quick-witted, classy lady who brought joy to everyone she met. She was small but mighty, always ready with a great retort that could light up a room.

Mary dedicated over 30 years of her life as a bus driver for the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) before retiring, earning the respect and affection of her colleagues and the many riders she served. An integral part of her community, she was a beloved member of the United Methodist Church in Sedalia, Missouri, where she proudly served as a greeter, welcoming all who entered with her warm smile and kind words.

Aside from her professional life, Mary found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. She loved to sit outside and watch the birds, relishing in their beauty and the tranquility they brought her. A cherished dream of hers was to live in Maine, where she enjoyed whale watching during visits, an experience that brought her immense happiness. Mary was often heard to say "If I could live in Maine, I'd be going right now."

Mary's legacy will forever live on through her family. She is survived by her husband Garry Brashear, daughter Lisa Shackelford, son Jimmy Shackelford, stepdaughter Tammy Kiger and stepsons Bruce Brashear, Brian Brashear and Garry Brashear Jr. Her grandchildren—Chelsea, Meranda, Justin, Logan, Lydia, Gage and Alisha, as well as eight step-grandchildren—will carry her spirit and memories in their hearts. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Susie Heath and Alice Barnett; her nieces Michelle Ahrens and Faye Hill; her nephews Charles Barnett and Kevin Blankenship; her great-niece Bethany Ahrens; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply. Mary joined her daughter Sarah Sales, her sister Linda Blankenship and stepson-in-law Jack Kiger in eternal rest.

Though she will be dearly missed, the love, laughter, and lessons she imparted will remain with her family and friends forever. Mary Margaret Brashear's life was a reflection of grace, humor, and a love that knows no bounds. Her absence leaves a profound void, yet her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family has chosen cremation and will not hold any formal funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.
