Lester Dwight LaForte

Lester Dwight LaForte went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, at the age of 73. Born on May 8, 1952, at the old St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, he was a devoted husband, loving family man, dedicated worker and cherished member of his community. He will be remembered for his caring nature and commitment to his family and friends.

Lester began his journey serving in the United States Army from December 9, 1969, to September 12, 1972, where he earned the rank of PFC E-3 as a heavy artillery specialist while completing his GED. He was honorably discharged and awarded the National Defense Service Medal, alongside the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge, reflecting his dedication and discipline during his military service. Following his time in the military, Lester pursued a successful career at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. Known as a hardworking individual focused on quality and safety, he held many job titles throughout his tenure before retiring due to health reasons.

In addition to his professional efforts, Lester's personal life was filled with love and commitment. He married Sharon Corum on June 6, 1987, and they shared 38 wonderful years together, building a life filled with family and memories. He demonstrated his devotion to his Lord with his membership at First Baptist Church of Raytown, Missouri. In addition to his love of animals, he enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including hunting, fishing and riding his Harley.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Sharon LaForte; step-daughter Carla Gibson; step-son Chris Nixon; step-grandchildren Taya Corum and Solisia Dam; and great-grandchild Preslee Keckler. He also leaves behind his brothers, Willard J. LaForte and Leonard LaForte (wife Joyce), along with several nieces and nephews who will carry forward his memory.

Lester found eternal peace alongside his father, Willard L. LaForte, his mother, Georgette (Casella) LaForte, his sister, Georgia Cerra, and his step-brother, David Archuleta. 

A graveside service to honor Lester will take place on September 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Valor Park Memorial Gardens, located in Grain Valley, Missouri, in the gazebo, immediately followed by military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to his wife.

Lester D. LaForte will be remembered for his immense love for his family and friends, his steadfast dedication, and the warmth he brought to all who knew him. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of care, passion, and commitment that will be treasured always.
