Derrick Michael Wilson

Apr 29, 2003 — Jul 20, 2026

With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Derrick Michael Wilson, who left us far too soon on July 20, 2026, at the age of 23.

Derrick was born on April 29, 2003, in Trenton, Missouri, to Traci Clark and Brad Wilson. From his earliest days, Derrick radiated a loving and generous spirit, one that would grow to leave deep, joyful marks on the lives of everyone lucky enough to know him. His touch and warmth extended to his family, friends, colleagues, and, most especially, to his beloved son, Maverick—a source of immense pride and love for Derrick.

After attending Belton High School, Derrick went on to Excelsior Springs Job Corp where he honed his talents and received his certification in Hospitality and Culinary Arts. It was clear even in his younger years that Derrick's passion for cooking ran far deeper than a simple interest. That passion led him to begin his professional journey at Hawaiian Bros, where he joined as a regular crew member. In his signature determined and good-humored fashion, he quickly moved into management—serving as a Travel Trainer and Shift Lead and earning admiration from everyone he worked alongside. The culinary skills he so expertly cultivated became not just a career, but a personal source of pride and a way to create joy for others.

The fullness and richness of Derrick’s life could never be measured by profession alone. He was endlessly curious and adventurous, known for his love of hunting, building guns, and riding motorcycles. He treasured time spent with friends, finding profound happiness in the simple joy of their company. More than any pastime or milestone, though, Derrick’s truest legacy is found in the warmth of his personality. He was famously loving and goofy, always positive, and unfailingly supportive. His presence lifted up those around him—he had a unique way of making people feel accepted and, through words and actions, encouraged others to step out of their comfort zones. Being in Derrick’s orbit meant feeling good about yourself, because he believed in everyone’s possibility and unique worth.

Derrick leaves behind a deeply devoted family who will miss him beyond words. Surviving him are his mother, Traci Clark; his treasured son, Maverick Wilson; brothers Ryan Wilson and Mason Clark; grandfathers Don Schroff, Mark Towns, and Steve Caldwell; grandmothers Karen Schroff, Rhonda Towns, and Jane Caldwell; as well as his loving aunts, cousins, and numerous close friends whose lives he touched with his genuine heart and exuberant spirit.

Though Derrick’s time with us was heartbreakingly brief, the love, laughter, and acceptance he offered the world will remain as an enduring gift. His memory is honored and will live on in the stories told, the meals shared, and the bonds between those he loved so deeply.

Family and friends are invited to honor Derrick’s life at a visitation on July 30, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both at Abundant Life Church, 414 Southwest Persels Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Following these services, a Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Oak Tree Farm Clubhouse, 501 Northeast Clubhouse Drive, Lee's Summit, MO 64086.

We grieve for Derrick, miss him fiercely, and celebrate all that he was—loving son, proud father, loyal friend, uplifting companion, and irreplaceable soul. In our hearts, his light will never fade.
