With profound sadness, yet immense gratitude for a life that spanned a full century, the family of Benjamin "Benny" Scott announces his peaceful passing at the age of 100. He departed this life surrounded by love, memory and the warmth of those who held him dear.
Benny's life was defined by strength, service and quiet dignity -- qualities beautifully reflected in his memoir, From World War II to the Run of the Year. Within its pages, he shared the story of his early years in Smackover, Arkansas, his proud service in the US Navy during World War II and his long, dedicated career with Standard Oil Company.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Cecile Scott, and by his cherished daughters, Sharon Yarbrough and Suzi Scott. Their memories continue to light the path for all who loved them.
Benny is survived by his son-in-law, Gary Yarbrough; granddaughters, Shannon (Russ) Wilson and Jamie (Jeff) Hill; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Aiden, Austin, Lilah, Mazie and Ashley. Though he endured the sorrow of loss, Benny's life remained a testament to enduring love and the unbreakable bond of family.
Those who knew Benny remember him as a man of gentleness, steadfast devotion and unwavering integrity. As a husband, he stood faithfully beside Cecile through decades of shared joys and challenges. As a father, he offered guidance and quiet strength. As Papaw and Great-Papaw, he found his greatest happiness in family gatherings, storytelling and simple moments filled with laughter and love.
In From World War II to the Run of the Year, Benny reflected on the arc of his remarkable life from a young sailor serving his country, to a man who built a lasting legacy of hard work, humility and compassion.
May his family find comfort in knowing that Benny's journey has come full circle, his century completed in peace. His legacy of courage, kindness and love will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed, yet never forgotten.
